Martha [mɑʁtɑ] is a performing artist using aerial rope and burlesque to create energetic performances full of surreal whimsy. Drawing on all her earthly and unearthly resources, she creates for connection, for money, and to alchemise an unrelenting stream of ideas into art.

After leaving her home country, Austria, to live a feral life and raise her child in the woods of Portugal, she started training in circus arts and burlesque in 2020. Since then, Martha has been self-conducting her circus education, which enabled her to learn from a variety of coaches in different countries and to focus on creating and performing from the beginning.

Martha is a creative multitool driven by a love for the absurd and the surreal beauty of human existence. Using skills in textile art, music, and a general craftiness, she creates little worlds where the lines between character, apparatus, costumes, and props get blurred.

In 2024, Martha returned to Austria and initiated the formation of the neo-burlesque troupe Nocturnal Creatures Cabaret. They perform sold-out shows year-round. Colleagues and fans of the show have come to trust her acts to be unhinged, energetic, fun, and somehow scary to a particular type of man. She does not mind at all.

As an aerialist, Martha performs in the aerial-theatre show Threads (UK) as well as aerial rope acts for events, and is currently working on a solo show. Martha has been training in clowning since 2024 and believes it is the highest art form there is. She loves it so much that she is scared to actually use it and is creating a very serious and gloomy show instead.

Martha also performs on stilts with Zirkus Meer and teaches circus skills to people of all ages. She lives together with her teenage child and dog, Chuva, in Innsbruck.
