Martha [mɑʁtɑ] is a movement artist, specialising in aerial rope and burlesque performance. After leaving her home country Austria to live a feral life and raise her child in the woods of Portugal, she discovered her love for circus. Between 2019 and 2024 her education in aerial arts, circus, exotic dance and burlesque was conducted in the backwater of Portugal by a variety of experienced performers and educators, such as Oliveira & Bachtler Circus school. In those years Martha also acquired many skills of rural survivalism like construction and playing the banjo. She honed her dressmaking skills in many fashion ventures and feels confident to fix almost anything if needed. Martha can be considered a creative swiss army knife.
After 8 years between forests and beaches, Martha returned to her country of origin where she is stirring up her hometown Innsbruck as Lotta Beef with her burlesque troupe Nocturnal Creatures Cabaret.
Martha is currently receiving training in clowning as well as aerial rope and is putting her skills to work in her burlesque performances, aerial acts for events and the aerial theatre show “Threads” . She is performing and teaching locally and internationally.
In her work, Martha likes to explore stories of transformation and human-animal metamorphosis. Drawing inspiration and know-how from her past life, she particularly enjoys constructing props and costumes to bring her stories to life.
Martha lives in Innsbruck with her child and their dog Chuva.
When she is not scheming creative endeavours or managing her little family, she and Chuva can be found scrambling through the woods. If she had the time, Martha would spend long afternoons in town cafes, reading books and watching people.
